Silent Auction
Each year the NBTSG has a silent auction table. This year it was chock full of goodies. Multiple machines, stock, and other sundries.

Our Master Sharpeners
This year took men scored high enough to reach the status of Master Sharpener in the NBTSG. On the left is Tim Lau and on the right we have Chris Moorman. Chris not only scored Master in shears, but in clipper blades also. This ranks him as a Grand Master Sharpener in the guild. He came all the way from Australia to take the test this year. Well done to both men.

Judges
Oh, and of course, I couldn't let this post go by without introducing you to one of the NBTSG's judges. Yeah, I know Andy, but I just had to.

When to Walk Away

Sometimes it's hard to know when to walk away. I love a challenge, but some shears (like the one in the video below) may end up costing you more to do in time than they are worth in income. If you want to tackle something like this for a good customer or just to do as a learning experience, buy all means, go for it. Just make sure, like a mention in the video, to communicate well with your customer before you attempt a repair so they understand the risks. If the sharpener that sent these to me talks to his customer and I end up getting this shear back, I'll do a write up on the repair.

New Hira-To Discs

Wolff decided to go with an additional sharpening disc supplier after going months without 9 micron sharpening discs. Wolff now stocks a Korean sharpening disc along with 3M’s. They are available in both Hook and Loop and  PSA and come in the following grit sizes - 500 (30 micron), 1200 (15 micron), and 2000 (9 micron). They are just as good if not better than the 3M discs, and they cost less. Give them a try. Pricing is below:

It took a while because Wolff had a few issues with capturing the videos from the Wolff Sharpening Show in August, but the videos are finally done. It is a 7 disc set and includes seminars on scissors sharpening, clipper blade sharpening, clipper repair, marketing, scissors manufacturing, and more.

Burrs on Blades

In the July Issue of On The Edge I did a write up on the importance of demagnetizing clipper blades. In the article I share some pictures showing what the blades looked like under magnification. I wanted to share them here as well.
